- External review- Notwithstanding that the IRBA conducts its firm reviews in cycles of every 3 years, the IRBA as the Assurance Regulator in South Africa is also called upon to conduct specific investigations in matters of public interest, as and when they arise. The IRBA has in recent years been re-adjusting its approach in terms of its focus areas to be more risk based and whilst we cannot determine the reasons for their delayed inspections, we are aware that there have been a number of high profile public accounting scandals which involve registered auditors and this may have kept the Regulator quite occupied. This appears to remain unchanged from the previous year.
